Join Henry VIII on Tour, a programme of various events held up and down the country as part of a research project led by Historic Royal Palaces.

This fascinating research delves into Henry's roots and celebrates the legacy of the Tudors. Discover Henry's progresses, the journeys he made around his realm and their significance. 

Held in partnership with National Trust, English Heritage and individual private owners who are members of the Historic Houses Trust, these events span across multiple locations and dates across the year.

Mapping out Henry VIII's journey, including where he visited and the routes he took, embark on an adventure and discover more about his life as Monarch.

Archaeological Dig (Sussex)

18 - 31 July

This will take place at Petworth House in Sussex and coincides with the International Festival of Archaeology being held there by Historic Royal Palace's community archaeology partners Digventures in association with the National Turst and is open to volunteers are families.

Part of this research includes attempting to find out the dimensions of the 'lost' North Wing of Henry's palace and uncovering his Grandstand or Banqueting House up on Lawn Hill. 

Visitors and participants will have the opportunity to handle some of the finds and look at the deed evidencing Henry's ownership of the manor and other archives that relate to the former royal residence.

Henry VIII Week (West Horsley)

27 July - 01 August

West Horsley Place was originally visited by Henry in 1533 and then owned (and extended) by him once he acquired it in 1538 following the execution of Henry Courtenay, Marquis of Exeter (and earl of Devon). 

As part of the Hosting Henry VIII Festival, there will be a multi-sensory installation in the house and Tudor craftspeople outside, along with jousting. In the week following there will be a concert by Ensemble Pro Victoria, talks including one by Anthony Musson, Head of Research at Historic Royal Palaces and a Tudor food installation.

Tudor Living History Day (Gloucestershire)

04 August: 11:00 - 17:00

This event will take place at Berkeley Castle, with spectacular Tudor music and dancing. There will be a special visit from Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and other characters from the Royal Court, visiting on their royal progress.
