A serious crime has been committed against the Marchioness of Downshire. A vast sum of cash and precious jewels have been stolen from her home in the dead of night. Will the punishment fit the crime?
In this online, interactive Zoom session, pupils will step back in time to 1813 to uncover the truth behind this sensationalist crime. Students will analyse a variety of sources including: videos, photographs, newspaper reports, and diary entries, as they explore the case and attempt to unravel fact from fiction.
Learning objectives
Pupils will:
- Learn the difference between primary and secondary sources and be able to suggest examples of each.
- Learn how to critically analyse and respond to primary and secondary sources.
- Develop skills in how to approach solving problems and making decisions.
- Consider a range of ethical issues around crime and punishment.
- Identify biased and subjective information in a range of sources, and be able to challenge stereotypical, biased or distorted viewpoints with appropriately sensitive, informed and balanced responses.
- Learn that we can look to the past to help us solve problems today.
