Members-Only Evening Tours

Kew Palace

Kew Palace

These evening tours offer a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes, after hours, when the palace is closed to visitors. Members will be taken on a full tour of the palace, including the Tudor undercoft (that predates ‘The Dutch House’ itself) and the atmospheric attics – complete with 17th Century witch markings!

Led by an expert guide in full Georgian attire, you will hear stories of Kew Palace in its prime, and uncover the people who lived, loved, and lay in state there. Predominantly, George III and Queen Charlotte.

For the duration of this tour only, you will not need to purchase admission to Kew Gardens, however please be aware that tickets to visit Kew Gardens are not included in this event ticket.

Kew Palace and the undercroft are both accessed by a handful of steps. Inside, there is a large staircase to access the upper floors. Please be aware that the staircase to the attic is small and steep. There is a lift inside the palace which provides access to the ground, first and second floors only. Please email us with any accessibility concerns at members@hrp.org.uk prior to booking.

The North Front entrance hallway, looking north towards the Queen's Garden.

The Queen's Garden was created in 1969 in a late 17th-century style, using only plants that were available in England before 1700.
Princess Elizabeth's Bedroom, looking west. Showing detail of a replica Grecian couch-bed, draped with a crimson chintz domed tester.

Historic records have provided detailed accounts of Princess Elizabeth's (1770-1840) bed, from which this Grecian couch-bed has been recreated.
The King's Dining Room, looking south-east. Showing Mahogany Sheraton dining chairs (c1800) set round a table set out with replica pies and poultry as if for a meal.

This room was originally the hall of the Jacobean mansion that once stood on the site.
